The American helmet (also known as the American colonial helmet, safari helmet, tropical helmet, sun helmet, elephant helmet or pressed-fiber helmet) is a sun protection helmet made of pressed fibers. It has been used as headgear by many corps of the United States Armed Forces, from 1934 to the present day. As of 2017, the helmet continues to be worn by cadres of the US Marine Corps, as an icon.
